Sewing Machine recommendation needed for a beginner?
jazzzjew asked:
I am lookin for a decent, and note too expensive sewing machine for myself.
The first project I want to undertake is making curtains for my apartment. odd sized windows have made for a big headache in looing to buy them. I also think i might want to fiddle in making clothing for myself here and there.
I have wanted a sewing machine for years anyway
What are the makes and models experienced ‘sewers’ would recommend for a beginner looking to do these kinds of projects?

Army wife in Hawaii asked:
I have always wanted to get a sewing machine, and I’m finally getting one after wanting one for 18 years. I usually hand sew everything, so i’m finally looking to get a nice machine, no more than $200 for a beginner sewer. Any suggestions? Anyone know about the sewing machines they sell at Walmart? I live in Hawaii, so my store options are limited. Any help would be great! Thanks!
Anyone have any opinion on the Bother or Singer lines?

I sew drapes as a hobby. What would be the best sewing machine to use?
poodle mom asked:
I love to sew and have been sewing for many years, mainly drapes, pillows, duvets. I need a sewing machine that will be heavy duty, straight stitch, blind hem stitch, et. I currently have a Singer Scholastic. A few years ago I bought a Juki – without really thinking it through – it was heavy duty but sewed 3000 stitches per min. I could not control it and gave up and sold it. Any suggestions from someone who sews these types of things would be helpful.

Can someone explain in simple terms the difference between a sewing machines and an overlock machine?

I am going to start sewing but most of it will be simple straight stitching. No embrodiery or anything. I don’t need a machine that does 2,002 stitches. Which machine would be for me? If you know of a certain machine too, I would greatly appreciate any advice? I am going to be doing alot of scrap fabric crafts for my home like quilted pillows and heming fabric.

What is the best sewing machine that about $2000 will buy?
Mandalawind asked:
I’d like to put together quilts, do some machine applique, maybe even do some quilting on the machine. Some embroidery apps would be nice too. I’ve been out of the loop for so long that I don’t know what is the best anymore. I have an old Bernina that’s great for general sewing but I want something more updated.
